I don’t know about anyone else but summer fashion panics me. I am all about the sunshine don’t get me wrong and on holiday I don’t much give two hoots about what I wear (not strictly true, I still love clothes I am just alot less self conscious of what people might think there. I will most likely never see them again after all and I am mostly just eating, exploring, running around after children or attempting to sit around a pool for as long as possible before being rumbled.) But the arrival of the summer sends my head in a spin that I somehow need to wear something that isn’t my skinny jeans and flattering layers.
This year though we have had such glorious and prolonged sunshine and temperatures here in the UK that it has meant my wardrobe reserved mostly for holidays and the rare hot occasions here in the middle of the country has had to be aired quite a bit, therefore so have my legs. Which, if you have been here a while you might know that, I just absolutely hate them. And yes at a size 8/10 you can still have your body hang ups lets just get that out there.
Not in a self loathing kind of a way, I am mostly over that now and there is nothing that is going to change them so I don’t beat myself up, but merely in the way that I know I am more comfortable and confident if I am mostly covered to the knee.
That being said life is too short, the weather is too hot and truth be told I know that noone really cares as much as I do so I have been trying to embrace it more this year and go with the good old saying ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’. That was meant with clothes in mind and not anything more scary and deep right!?
So I thought I would share some of what I have been wearing the past few weeks before the sun goes away and I am back in my safety net of skinny jeans or tights for the next 9 months – I just can’t help myself.
I feel like I should say I do own alot of clothes, mostly years and years old, some pre children in fact, that is how much of a clothes hoarder I am and how much I like to get my wear out of the ones I feel comfortable in. I am not one to buy overly expensive clothes (I wish) or to buy new seasons wardrobe every year (I wish again) so although I always pick up a few pieces here and there and I do love fashion (although these days I buy way more for the girls than I do for myself) I generally mix it up with accessories and some good old vintage (by that of course I just mean from the back of the wardrobe) items, like my floral black primark skirt which I am very sad about the fact that it is probably seen its last summer this time around. Or this skirt above which I actually had to sew new buttons on because it is a tad small these days yet I am not ready to retire it just yet!
My look at the moment mainly consists of my one true love the sandals which I never seem to take off my feet (I have the tan lines to prove it) and anything that doesn’t make contact with too much skin. Thin floaty material is the winner of the day which I am loving yet I know lends quite alot of room for ice cream and BBQ indulgence and I might well be in need of a whole new wardrobe come Autumn just for very different reasons! Oh well at least I will still have all my accessories to hand, I always accessories with a necklace, watch, sunglasses or my hat because I do think that in the summer especially with one piece items like dresses and play suits it makes it can easily and affordably give it a more put together look.
So for now the dreaded legs are out, the ugly knees are here to stay because no one notices when you have a smile on your face right?
xx
