Sisters – April 2018 {Siblings}

Sisters April 2018 Siblings

“Anything you can do I can do better. I can do anything better than you.” This good old ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ classic pretty much sums up my two at the moment. Thankfully not in a spiteful or even bickering way (although of course there’s always a little of that thrown in for good measure) but in a really joyful and positive way. Life is better together and for Roma specifically everything is a competition…even when it most definitely is not!

For so long Roma has been the one to look up to Eva over anything and anybody else and whilst that is still the case I can see so much of it working both ways now. They thrive in each other’s company and bounce so well off each other. No longer is it just Roma who mirrors Eva but the tables are turning too. Although I say that and Roma is still firmly in the stage where she would do anything Eva said and when Easter Bonnet and Sports Relief came about at school she joined in because there was no question that she wouldn’t.

They both started dance classes recently, separately, but you would think they went to the same one! Roma teaches her all about ballet and tap as they get their dress up tutus on and Eva pretty much dances her way through life at the moment. She spends her days practicing the little routines she is learning and Roma copies. She learns it so well and Eva smiles the proudest of smile without batting an eyelid that she is within an inch of her – thankfully Roma is robust to the knocks that inevitably brings with flailing arms everywhere!

As I write this we are coming to the end of two whole weeks together for the Easter holidays and whilst it definitely has not been plain sailing mostly thanks to the cold and the rain with a little too many days at home. What a far cry from last year when they were frolicking around in a sea of daffodils in the golden evening light and wearing tshirts at Legoland! It has also been lovely, simple days at home have meant that if it is possible they have become even closer and their communication with each other and about one another when we are out with friends is still some of my most proudest moments ever.

I ended last months update with the possibility of a sleepover that they were talking about and on a whim of excitement in the holidays I said yes. I tucked up two very excited and happy girls in Eva’s bed and my heart just about burst. It didn’t quite go to plan and about an hour later and what felt like a million times telling Roma not to come out of the room, we put an overtired and disappointed little Roma back into her room on the promise that we can try it again another day. We might not quite be that family just yet but I can see that in years to come they will be and even the fact they want to share every moment is just the sweetest thing.

Of course there have been fights, and arguments, and times when I literally cannot seem to get them to be at arms lengths of each other without a ‘she said this, she did that’ scenario, where they are definitely both as bad as each other and where I cannot seem to keep them both happy simultaneously. Yet I know that come tomorrow they are really going to miss each others company and so am I (although I would be lying if I said I wasn’t going to enjoy the relative peace and calm, to have a hot cuppa and hear myself think, maybe even get some work done) but with the lighter evenings and the sunshine promising to show up I think we are on the cusp of so much more quality time together, even after school, and I cannot wait.

Here’s to looking forward to ditching the winter coats and hats and counting down the days until May half term!

    My girls slept in bunk beds in a room behind a curtain when we went to Alton Towers last week and loved it. They asked if they could have a sleep over at home and I’m not sure I’m ready for it. I can see it not being the wonderful sibling dream that we think it will be! I’m praying the sunshine is around the corner x
